Entertainment Alternatives in Newark, NJ

Much of Newark's charm lies within its abundant supply of cultural attractions. The city is flourishing with music, performances, fine dining and entertainment. There is a bunch of art and artifacts at galleries and museums, plus casual family fun like minor league sports, festivals and fairs.

The New Jersey Performing Arts Center is a state-of-the-art venue where the leading performances range in a variety of art forms from gospel to modern dance. The Grammy Award-winning New Jersey Symphony Orchestra is native to the area. The Newark Symphony Hall is headquarters for the African Globe Theater Works, a leading stage company, as well as a complete variety of performances.

Here you can visit the famous Statue of Liberty, and go to Liberty State Park and visit the Liberty Science Center, with its hands-on programs and science exhibits that are fun for children as well as adults.

For those that are interested in sports, there is a number of various professional sports teams that are from Newark. Newark's famous for its baseball, as it was one of the first cities with professional baseball teams. Newark had eight National Association of Baseball Players teams, including the Newark Eurekas and the Newark Adriatics. Newark was then home to the Newark Indians of the International League and then to the Newark Peppers of the Federal League.

Newark never had its own professional hockey team, but as of August 2007, when the Prudential Center is complete, the New Jersey Devils will move to the city.

There is also an expansion team for the Major Indoor Soccer League that will also play in the Prudential Center.
