The neighborhoods in the Newark area are witnessing a boom of housing and opportunity. Businesses are relocating and expanding closer to the area and many major educational reforms are underway. These wonderfully revamped neighborhoods will make you feel at home regardless of whether you've lived there your whole life, or if you're just visiting for the first time.
From the Ironbound section with its world-famous Portuguese restaurants to the charming Victorian homes in the Frest Hill region. There is the fashionable Weequahic and Vailsburg neighborhoods to the brownstones of Lincoln Park. Newark has something to offer everyone regardless of your taste or preferences.
The Neighborhoods are split up into wards: North Ward, East Ward, Central Ward, West Ward and South Ward.
North Ward has some of the best in landmarks and is well known for its two designated neighborhoods, Forest Hills and Roseville. This ward is represented by Anibal Ramos Jr. Branch Brook Park, which is one of the nations county parks and is best known for its annual cherry blossom festival.
The East Ward has about 54,570 residents that share the common bond of enrichment of a compact neighborhood by the Portuguese and Spanish. This area of Newark also shares its neighborhoods with German, Irish, Italian, Polish, Jewish, Slavic and Lithuanian cultures. This ward has been broken into three neighborhoods, Ironbound, Dayton and Downtown.
Central Ward is currently known as "Science Park" and is predominately an African-American inhabited community. This particular ward is known as the Central Business District and is known for its many historical sites.
West Ward has approximately 54,602 residents. In the earlier years, many of the residents were predominately of Irish decent. However, it has recently grown to become a combination of African-Americans and Haitians. The West Ward has some of the best neighborhoods, which are considered to be in the Vailsburg section. In this section there is also Ivy Hill Park that provides both children and adults a great place to enjoy the fresh air.
South Ward in its earlier years was predominately inhabited with those of a Jewish decent. Its ethnic backgrounds are now a combination of African-Americans and Hispanics. The South Ward has many beautiful sites and two neighborhoods that are known as Weequahic and Clinton Hill.
